Using HTML5 as a document format...

Make your documents future proof and DRM free with HTML5...

All the big players in the office software productivity market are currently doing everything they can to lock people into their proprietary document formats like DOCX and XLSX. Microsoft and Google are actively discouraging people to use open and free document formats like RTF and even plain text.

Have you ever tried loading a Rich Text document, modifying it and then saving it again in Google Docs or MS Office 365 as an RTF document? Surprise!... Surprise!... Google Docs and MS Office 365 will not allow you to save your documents and precious letters and other content to the open and completely interchangeable RTF document format!

To prevent your documents becoming held ransom by these oppressive and Dick-tating companies, I suggest you start using a much freer and open document format. Current web browser technology and continual updating of the HTML5 code has recently allowed software developers to use this format to create free and open applications that could use the HTML5 format to their advantage.

*.HTM or *.HTML is used as the file extension for HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) web page file format... Image inserted by SSuite Office Fandango Desktop Editor
The HTML file extension is sometimes abbreviated as .htm for compatibility with older operating systems, such as Disk Operating System (DOS), Windows 3.x and OS/2., which support eight character file names with a three character extension. When you save an HTML document, you can use either the .html or the .htm file extension.

HTM and HTML are the most common type of documents used to build web pages and documents. Both HTM and HTML may contain links to images, audio, video and scripts. Just like any other standard desktop created document e.g. MS Word, SSuite WordGraph, Google Docs etc.

Any browser or web editing program can open HTM files. HTML consists of the set of mark-up symbols or codes inserted in a file intended for display on a World Wide Web browser page. The mark-up tells the browser how to display a Web page's words and images for the user.

If the web can be made compatible with html, then why not use it as a document format too!

With our latest text editor and word processor, this has been made even easier to do. Both our HTML5 compatible applications are WYSIWYG capable.

There are no more excuses NOT to use and create HTML5 documents:

  • Completely open source.
  • Easy to use and to create documents with.
  • Open, create, and edit existing HTML documents.
  • Create and insert links for dynamic online documents.
  • Anybody can open a HTML document with their web browser.
  • It is just as capable of text formatting and table creation as desktop word processors.
  • It is safe to use as a standardised document format for future archival purposes and readability.
  • Create stand-alone documents with embedded images from your hard drive without any links! { gif, jpg, png }
  • No-one has control over the format, and thus cannot lock other software developers out and create vendor-lockin.
  • It is very easy to create a HTML document with free text editing software, just like ordinary desktop word processors.

So there you have it, start using HTML as your standard document format so that everybody can have access to rich and creative content all over the world without the need of expensive paid for software applications.
